Silvana Sintow-Behrens and Marin Blažević will join the jury of the 3rd International Competition for Young Opera Singers “Zinka Milanov”, along with Marjana Lipovšek, Fabrizio Melano, Rosemary Joshua, Mariano Horak, Brenda Hurley, Ville Matvejeff and Vlatka Oršanić.
Distinguished international opera personalities will evaluate the competitors according to the following criteria: technical preparedness, musicality, voice quality and artistic personality.
Silvana Sintow-Behrens was born into a musical family and grew up in the major cities of the international classical music world. She received piano and singing lessons from childhood and went on to study Musicology as well as Theatre Arts. She started her career as a public relations manager of the record company BMG Classics/RCA in London, which put her in charge of artists such as Evgeny Kissin, Barry Douglas, James Galway and Yuri Temirkanov. She was subsequently hired by the French record company Erato Disques (Warner) and appointed Director of International Promotions and Artist Development in Paris. There she also became Daniel Barenboim’s personal PR, which she later continued to carry out for Teldec Classics/Warner in Berlin.
As the founder and director of Classicalia International Promotions and Management she works with singers, conductors and instrumentalists in establishing and developing their careers. Parallel to her Munich-based agency, Silvana Sintow-Behrens served as artistic advisor for 11 years to the Athens Concert Hall, Megaron.
In addition to leading her agency, which has represented some of the finest singers and conductors for over two decades, Silvana Sintow-Behrens enjoys working with talented young artists.
Marin Blažević PhD, is a dramaturge and theatre and performance studies scholar, until 2016 associate professor of performance studies and dramaturgy at the Academy of Drama Arts and opera dramaturgy at the Music Academy, University of Zagreb; occasionally also adjunct associate professor at Columbia University School of the Arts in New York. He has given guest lectures and run seminars and master classes at leading universities and art schools around the world, such as Yale – School of Drama, Stanford – Theater and Performance Studies Department, RMIT, Northwestern University, University of New South Wales, Utrecht University, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, University of Copenhagen, De La Salle University, USC Roski School of Art and Design, and elsewhere.
Marin Blazevic was artistic director of the Opera Company of Croatian National Theater in Rijeka from 2014 until 2016, and in January 2017 he was appointed General Manager and Artistic Director of the CNT Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka.
Most significant projects include: director and dramaturge of Performance Studies International dispersed international conference project: Fluid States – Performances of unKnowing (2015); books: Gavella – Teorija glume (Theory of Acting), Razgovori o novom kazalištu (Conversations on the New Theatre), Izboren poraz: Novo kazalište u hrvatskom glumištu od Gavelle do… (A Defeat Won: New Theater in Croatia), The “No”, MISperformance: essays in shifting perspectives (with Lada ale Feldman); dramaturgy and/or directing: Trilogy on Croatian Fascism (in collaboration with Oliver Frljić), Carmen (in collaboration with Selma Banich), Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Verdi’s Otello, Macbeth, Falstaff and Aida.
Young opera singers between the age of 21 and 35 from all over the world are invited to apply for the competition that is going to take place from 12 to 18 July 2018 on the stage of Croatian National Theatre “Ivan pl. Zajc” in Rijeka. Deadline for application is 20 April 2018.
